Screven County is 1-6 against Metter since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gamecocks will welcome the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Screven County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Screven County gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 19-9 win over Bryan County. The 19-point effort marked the Gamecocks' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Demarko Ward produced another solid effort rushing for 153 yards and two TDs on only 14 carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Screven County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 241 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 183 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Screven County's defense stepped up as well, laying out Jamariyan Cosey eight times. Luke Bohannon was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up five sacks himself.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Metter). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Claxton 45-0. The victory continues a trend for Metter in their matchups with Claxton: they've now won seven in a row.
Screven County better keep an eye on Michael Ricks. He was instrumental in Metter's win, rushing for 121 yards and one score on only six carries, while also throwing for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Ricks is becoming a predictor of Metter's success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Keyshawn Polk was another key player, picking up 103 receiving yards and one TD.
Screven County's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Metter, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Screven County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 259.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Metter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 183.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Screven County was dealt a bruising 34-6 defeat at the hands of Metter in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Will the Gamecocks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
