The Valley Vikings suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 71-11 loss at the hands of Fortune Early College. Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-4.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fortune Early College to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zakiyyah Abdul - Azeem, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Abdul - Azeem is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaziah "Lay" Akinmurele, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Valley has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Fortune Early College, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley will challenge Cordova at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fortune Early College, they will head out on the road to square off against Leroy Greene Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leroy Greene Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1254th, while Fortune Early College is ranked 595th).
