The Washington Eagles will square off against the University Red Devils at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Washington headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Balboa let them put that streak behind them. Washington's pitcher stepped up to hand Balboa a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Tasso Tourlos was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles. Those runs were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Nick Wilson was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Liam Troy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, on Thursday University's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against Skyline. That's two games straight that the Red Devils have won by just one run.
Jett Messenger and Sabin Verplaetse made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Messenger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Verplaetse tossed 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. At the plate, Messenger went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Verplaetse scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Quincy Nash, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Chee, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
University pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Washington, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Washington might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from University in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Washington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
