The Orcutt Academy Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Righetti Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Orcutt Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Orcutt Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Arroyo Grande, taking the game 46-35. The victory was all the more spectacular given Orcutt Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while Arroyo Grande is ranked 79th).
Orcutt Academy found their leader in underclassman Elizabeth Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 12 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lylah Garcia, who scored six points along with two steals.
Righetti suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 75-38 defeat at the hands of St. Joseph. Righetti was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-15.
The victory got Orcutt Academy back to even at 9-9. As for Righetti, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Orcutt Academy skirted past Righetti 64-61 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Will Orcutt Academy repeat their success, or does Righetti have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
