Basketball Recap: Rio Vista Falls Despite Big Games from Guadalupe Valdenegro and Samiah Holley

Rio Vista's tournament run continued when they took on Anderson on Thursday. The Rio Vista Rams fell 41-29 to the Anderson Cubs.

Rio Vista's loss came despite strong showings from Samiah Holley and Guadalupe Valdenegro. Holley almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, 11 boards, and 11 steals, while Valdenegro posted seven points in addition to ten steals and six boards. With that strong performance, Holley is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Makyla Mandujano, who put up two points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Rio Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Taylor Ford, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 33 boards for Anderson. Ford is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 26 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Payten Ford, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds.

Rio Vista has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Anderson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Rio Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-29 loss against Dixon on the 13th. As for Anderson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 31-23 defeat against Pierce on the 13th.
