Hillsdale and Capuchino are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Fighting Knights will host the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games Hillsdale has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Hillsdale is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since March 15, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Sacred Heart Prep by a score of 4-2. Fighting Knights fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Gators since on Friday.
Robert Gilbert was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
Meanwhile, Capuchino won against Carlmont on Wednesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Scots a 7-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won three matchups in a row.
The result came thanks to Declan Mendel's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Andres Gomez was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Capuchino is 7-1 when Gomez posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bryce Brooks, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Capuchino was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive contests.
Hillsdale's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8. As for Capuchino, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.
Hillsdale took their victory against Capuchino in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Do the Fighting Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
