The Blake Yellow Jackets had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They walked away with a 61-53 win over Sickles. Given Blake's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Sickles is ranked 515th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Blake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joshua Lewis, who scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. That makes it two consecutive games in which Lewis has scored at least 25% of Blake's points. Another player making a difference was Kentrell Martin, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Blake's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Sickles, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blake will take on Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jesuit knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Blake likes a good challenge. As for Sickles, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Leto at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leto is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
