The Twentynine Palms Wildcats will challenge the Vista del Lago Ravens at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Vista del Lago will be up against a hot Twentynine Palms team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Twentynine Palms was the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy last Wednesday. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Jandell Jiminez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Jiminez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Twentynine Palms let Keli'I ( Bubba ) Corney and Anthony Gabriel run wild. Corney scored two runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3, while Gabriel scored two runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. With that strong performance, Gabriel is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Anthony Escandon, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Vista del Lago owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They blew past Perris 6-0. While the Ravens didn't have the best season last year (they finished 0-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Evan Kosonoy was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Alec Bostrom, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Vista del Lago has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. Twentynine Palms' victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Twentynine Palms has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Vista del Lago struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
