Independence's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 75-56 bruising from Tuscarora. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Tuscarora is ranked 25th).
Despite the loss, Independence still got an impressive performance from Grant Kunkle, who scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Mason Ogburn, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Independence has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Tuscarora, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Independence will head out on the road to face off against Potomac Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Potomac Falls knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matchups -- so hopefully Independence likes a good challenge. Tuscarora will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Heritage at 7:15 p.m. on January 16th.
