The Lake Dallas Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Sulphur Springs Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Lake Dallas made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Aubrey, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Falcons fell just short of the Chaparrals by a score of 14-11 on Thursday. That makes it the first time this season the Falcons have let down their home crowd.
Ben Allen put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 120 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 40 yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sulphur Springs). They really took it to Community for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-7 win. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 51-0.
Lake Dallas better keep an eye on Mason Cooper. He was instrumental in Sulphur Springs' win, throwing for 294 yards and six touchdowns while completing 93.8% of his passes. What's more, Cooper racked up 171.9 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Dobson Martin helped Cooper out on the ground, rushing for 83 yards and one score on only seven carries.
Sulphur Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Mason Horne, Nathan Adams, and Grayson Hardy picked up one apiece.
The victory made it two in a row for Sulphur Springs and bumps their season record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points over those games. As for Lake Dallas, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 4-4.
Lake Dallas was dealt a bruising 38-8 defeat at the hands of Sulphur Springs in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Wildcats' Jaxson Haire, who rushed for 131 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries, and also picked up 69 receiving yards and one touchdown. Now that the Falcons know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
