Weslaco is 5-0 against Rivera since October of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Weslaco Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Weslaco's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Rivera has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Weslaco's game was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They enjoyed a cozy 42-23 win over Los Fresnos.
Elias Rodriguez jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 295 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Rodriguez jr's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards.
Meanwhile, Rivera fell victim to San Benito's stalwart defense two weeks ago and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Greyhounds 49-0. While losing is never fun, Rivera can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1034th, while San Benito is ranked 307th).
Weslaco's victory bumped their season record to 7-0 while Rivera's defeat dropped theirs to 1-5.
Everything came up roses for Weslaco against Rivera when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 47-14 victory. Will Weslaco repeat their success, or does Rivera have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
