The William Floyd Colonials entered their tilt with the Ward Melville Patriots with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. William Floyd blew past Ward Melville 55-31. William Floyd has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.
William Floyd had a senior duo take command as Shy Hawkins scored 13 points along with nine blocks and six rebounds and Kayla Gilmore scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Gilmore is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Meyer, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
William Floyd's win was their 16th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. As for Ward Melville, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. William Floyd will challenge Riverhead at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ward Melville will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Walt Whitman at 6:45 p.m. on February 12th.
