Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for St. Augustine

St. Augustine waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Del Norte Nighthawks.

Cristian Mares looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Tyler Wick was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Raphael Dunne was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

St. Augustine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matches.

St. Augustine's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Del Norte, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Augustine will face off against Bonita Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Del Norte, they will take on Santana in a tournament on Monday.
