The Orland Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Corning Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Orland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact Orland proved. They secured a 51-46 W over Oroville.
Orland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angie Bernal led the charge by scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bernal has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillianna Rowe, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Corning's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 15th straight loss. They fell 38-28 to Las Plumas. Corning has not had much luck with Las Plumas recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Orland's win bumped their record up to 11-16. As for Corning, their loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-22.
Everything came up roses for Orland against Corning in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 52-25 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orland since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
