The Chino Cowboys will head out on the road to square off against the Don Lugo Conquistadores at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Don Lugo's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Chino hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Chino never let Chaffey get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Wednesday. That looming 10-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cowboys yet this season.
The result came thanks to Nathan Sena's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Xiovany Ochoa, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. Grant Kuhns Vasquez was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Chino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, everything went Don Lugo's way against Montclair on Wednesday as Don Lugo made off with a 13-1 victory. With that win, the Conquistadores brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Trevor Young tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Don Lugo got a massive performance out of Jaden Burillo, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-5. Burillo has become a key player for Don Lugo: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Javier Guzman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Chino pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.67 hits in those games compared to only 4.5 in the others. As for Don Lugo, their record is now 3-5.
Chino took their win against Don Lugo in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chino since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
