Dawson Wood made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Wood is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Wayne City got a massive performance out of Logan Schuster, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave Schuster a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eli Gardner, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Murphysboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Jacobs, falling 17-2.
Murphysboro saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Nance, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Murphysboro's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Wayne City, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-1-1.
Wayne City's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Indians have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Murphysboro, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wayne City continue to outrun the ball?
