Baseball Game Preview: Nordhoff Rangers vs. Fillmore Flashes

For the second straight game, Nordhoff will face off against Fillmore. The Rangers will face off against the Flashes at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Nordhoff is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Nordhoff is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fillmore.

For Fillmore's part, Santiago Avila and Thomas Alamillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Avila struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Alamillo tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fillmore is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-8 otherwise. At the plate, Avila scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Alamillo scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Alamillo has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Javi Contreras was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Fillmore is undefeated when Contreras posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Johan Reyes, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Nordhoff now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Fillmore, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-9 record.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Nordhoff has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fillmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
