Ventura has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Ventura Cougars and the Flagstaff Eagles will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Ventura has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 399 points over their last six matches.
Last Tuesday, Ventura didn't have too much trouble with San Marcos at home as they won 60-42. Given Ventura's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while San Marcos is ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ventura can attribute much of their success to Skyler Knight, who scored 16 points along with four steals, and Kailee Staniland, who scored 23 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. The match was Staniland's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Moore, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds.
Flagstaff has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 32 points or more this season. They breezed by Lee Williams at home to the tune of 76-15. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Flagstaff has managed all season.
Ventura's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.08 points. As for Flagstaff, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
