Baseball Game Preview: Peotone Blue Devils vs. Streator Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Peotone will face off against Streator. The Blue Devils will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m.

Peotone took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Streator, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bulldogs 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since March 18th.

For Streator's part, Isiah Weibel put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Weibel has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jake Hagie was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Streator is 3-1 when Hagie posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise.

Peotone is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Streator, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-11.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Peotone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Streator struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts.
