The St. Rita Mustangs will challenge the Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Rita is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
St. Rita is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Fenwick just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Friars by a score of 9-8.
Colin Quinn made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Jayden Hawkins was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Chicago Mt. Carmel, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Loyola Academy with a sharp 13-7 victory on Saturday. Considering the Caravan have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
TJ McQuillan was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Ireland, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Chicago Mt. Carmel pushed their record up to 20-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for St. Rita, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-9.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Rita has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Chicago Mt. Carmel struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Rita might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Chicago Mt. Carmel in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road?
