The Galena Pirates will take on the Morrison Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
On Saturday, Galena came up short against Byron and fell 7-3. The Pirates have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Morrison had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 16-2 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won four contests by more than 11 runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Koltin Swaim and Ayden Meinsma were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Swaim didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Meinsma pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Swaim a new career-high. At the plate, Swaim went 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Meinsma went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Meinsma has become a key player for Morrison: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Morrison got a massive performance out of Jake Stobbe, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Stobbe has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Morrison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Morrison's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Galena, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Everything went Galena's way against Morrison in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Galena made off with a 14-2 victory. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
