Basketball Recap: St. Lucy's Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

St. Lucy won the last time they faced San Gorgonio and things went their way on Saturday too. The St. Lucy's Regents put the hurt on the San Gorgonio Spartans with a sharp 35-13 victory. The Regents have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jazmin Benson, who posted seven points in addition to six boards and five steals. Benson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Sanders, who had four points and eight rebounds.

St. Lucy's has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.1 points per game. As for San Gorgonio, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Lucy's will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Etiwanda at 4:45 a.m. on January 8, 2025. After both having extra time off, San Gorgonio and Arroyo Valley will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
