The Salesian Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Marshall Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Salesian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Last Monday, everything went Salesian's way against Legacy as Salesian made off with an 8-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
The team relied heavily on Nate Zesati, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Luis Chavez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Marshall waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Fighting Lancers.
Michael Gerst looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Adan Castro was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Muro, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Marshall pushed their record up to 5-1-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Salesian, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
