The Douglas Byrd Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Union Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Douglas Byrd has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Douglas Byrd proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by six) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Fayetteville Christian 12-11.

Brody Callahan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Douglas Byrd: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, MJ McDuffie was incredible, going 2-for-3 with six stolen bases and three runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Nicholas McRae was another key player, earning two runs and six stolen bases.
Douglas Byrd kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Union scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 18-8 to Berean Baptist Academy.
Matt Reaves was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Serrano, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Douglas Byrd's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Union, their loss dropped their record down to 0-16.
Union's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Douglas Byrd has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Union, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Douglas Byrd keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Everything went Douglas Byrd's way against Union in their previous matchup back in March, as Douglas Byrd made off with a 16-3 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
