The Colton Yellowjackets waltzed into their contest Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 53-52 photo finish over Grand Terrace. For Colton, this counts as revenge for the 51-43 loss Grand Terrace walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Colton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jasmine Jimenez, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Savannah Govea was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Grand Terrace lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mikayla Doud. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Doud scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Joy Amajoyi, who scored two points along with 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Grand Terrace were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Colton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Grand Terrace, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
Colton will finish 2023 at home by hosting Banning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Banning is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Grand Terrace and Lucerne Valley will face off at 1:30 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lucerne Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 835th, while Grand Terrace is ranked 412th).
