Hoover hasn't had much luck against Muir recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tornados will host the Mustangs at 3:45 p.m.
Hoover is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tornados have suffered since April 17, 2024.
Hoover saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Cano, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Eli Legino was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Muir entered their tilt with Hoover on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Tornados with a sharp 12-2 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Miguel Castillo tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.
On the hitting side, Muir got a massive performance out of Conrad Hunziker, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Hunziker has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kahlil Rishwain, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Muir always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Muir's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hoover, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
Hoover might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Muir when the teams last played on Tuesday. Will the Tornados have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
