The Holtville Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Julian Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Holtville has five straight victories, Julian has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Holtville had just enough and edged Palo Verde Valley out 2-1. Kate Grizzle had to tread lightly for part of the match after she was hit with a yellow card, but that was the only trouble Holtville got from the refs.
Meanwhile, Julian fell victim to Borrego Springs' stalwart defense on Tuesday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were the victim of a tough 6-0 loss at the hands of the Rams.
Holtville pushed their record up to 11-10-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 27 goals over those three matches. As for Julian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Everything went Holtville's way against Julian when the teams last played back in January as Holtville made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Holtville since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
