The Rosamond Roadrunners will venture away from home to take on the Kern Valley Broncs at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Rosamond has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Rosamond after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 12-2 to Boron. The Roadrunners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Kern Valley got the win against Frazier Mountain on Tuesday by a conclusive 24-3. The result was nothing new for the Broncs, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Aeden Quezada and Aiden Madden made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Quezada pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Madden tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Quezada has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Quezada got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Madden got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most RBI Quezada has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Blake Baughman and Ethan Stockwell did most of the damage at the plate: Baughman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Stockwell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Wyatt Blagg was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kern Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Kern Valley has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Rosamond, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rosamond has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kern Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rosamond might still be hurting after the 15-9 defeat they got from Kern Valley in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Roadrunners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
