Baseball Game Preview: St. Mary's Rams vs. Lodi Flames

For the second straight game, St. Mary will face off against Lodi. The Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Flames at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.

If St. Mary's beats Lodi with six runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Rams never let the Flames get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Monday. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Nico Bavaro looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Alex Escalante was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Dax Hardcastle was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

St. Mary's lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Lodi, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Mary's has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lodi struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts.
