Taft has been on the road for two straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Chavez Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Even though Taft has not done well against the Cougars recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Taft took down the Cougars 57-43. The win was just what Taft needed coming off of a 69-16 loss in their prior contest.
Taft's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alaysia Taylor led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taira Leota, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Chavez had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 56-28 victory over Wasco.
Taft is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-13 record this season. As for Chavez, they pushed their record up to 11-9 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Taft lost to the Titans at home by a decisive 47-28 margin in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Chavez's Hannah Diaz, who scored 21 points along with four blocks. Now that Taft knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
