The Mars Fightin' Planets will head out on the road to challenge the Montour Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mars knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Montour likes a good challenge.
Mars pushed their score all the way to 58 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 79-58 loss to Moon Area might stick with them for a while. Mars has struggled against Moon Area recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ryan Ceh, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15points for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Detisch, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Montour waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Bethel Park 58-44. Given Montour's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Bethel Park is ranked 191st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mars' defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Montour, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Mars didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Montour in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 73-67 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mars since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
