Last Thursday, Waynesburg Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Albert Gallatin, taking the game 50-39. Given Waynesburg Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Albert Gallatin is ranked 443rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waynesburg Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaley Rohanna, who scored 19 points along with five assists. The contest was Rohanna's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Peyton Cowell was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Winter Park came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points) and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 39-37 win over Lake Nona.
Winter Park relied on the efforts of Auria Mack, who scored 12 points along with four steals, and Sam Childs, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Mack continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Seay, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Waynesburg Central pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Winter Park, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Waynesburg Central have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Winter Park, though, as they've been averaging only 29.7 rebounds per game. Given Waynesburg Central's sizeable advantage in that area, Winter Park will need to find a way to close that gap.
