Baseball Recap: Rancho Mirage Gets the Win

Rancho Mirage was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Bloomington Bruins. This was payback for the Rattlers, who suffered a 9-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Zachary Berntsen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Jayden Cunningham looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Marcos Ceja Jr., who scored two runs while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four). Jaden Labit was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Rancho Mirage kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bloomington onlymanaged five hits.

Rancho Mirage's record is now 4-1. As for Bloomington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Rancho Mirage will be taking part in a tournament against Santa Rosa Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rancho Mirage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season. As for Bloomington, they will host Cathedral City at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bloomington also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 6.5 runs per game.
