Zack Sanchez and Brock Sell did most of the damage at the plate: Sanchez went 4-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI, while Sell scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four hits gave Sanchez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Myles Apalit, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Tokay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Bear Creek posted their closest win since March 1st on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Weston Ranch 16-15. With that win, the Bruins brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Bear Creek let Jaxson Bayani and Tyler Gilbert run wild. Bayani got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Gilbert scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Bear Creek is undefeated when Bayani posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Evan Jackson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Bear Creek's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Tokay, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Bear Creek's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tokay hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. It's a different story for Bear Creek, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Tokay's hitters?
Tokay was able to grind out a solid win over Bear Creek in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 5-0. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bruins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
