Basketball Recap: Oviedo Comes Up Short

Oviedo suffered their closest defeat since November 22, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of The First Academy Royals by a score of 52-49. The Lions have struggled against the Royals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Oviedo lost, don't look at Cameron Bryant. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Terell James, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead The First Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Max Simmons, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Demetrice McCray, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Oviedo's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7. As for The First Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Oviedo will head out to face off against Lake Brantley at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Brantley has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 177 points over their last three games. As for The First Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-56 win against Bishop Moore on the 7th.
