The Lincoln Lions will challenge the Gilroy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lincoln has five straight victories, Gilroy has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Lincoln made easy work of Live Oak and carried off a 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jayden Peters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lorenzo Collazo, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Bernwanger, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Live Oak only posted an OBP of .269.
Meanwhile, Gilroy came up short against Christopher on Tuesday, falling 18-2.
Gilroy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Passama, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Lincoln's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Gilroy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Gilroy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Gilroy, though, as they've only averaged .217. Will they be able to contain Lincoln's hitters?
Lincoln took their victory against Gilroy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
