In what's become a running theme this season, the Garey Vikings gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 71-6 win over Bassett. Winning may never get old, but Garey sure is getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Leading Garey to victory were Alyssa Herrera and Armani Owens. Herrera scored 24 points along with eight rebounds, while Owens dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Aaliyah (AJ) Jones was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Garey has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. As for Bassett, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garey will take on Pomona at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Pomona will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1133rd, while Garey is ranked 537th). As for Bassett, they will head out on the road to take on La Puente at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. La Puente is on a three-game streak of home losses, Bassett a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
