The Willow Glen Rams will head out to face off against the Pioneer Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Willow Glen is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 15 games.
While Willow Glen's win against Cupertino wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Pioneers 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since March 24th.
Zack Koontz looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ray Walsh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2025. Joshua Kaminski was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Pioneer fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Santa Teresa on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Saints by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered against the Saints since April 6, 2022.
Jaxon Gentry was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Easton Deguara made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Pioneer and nudges their season record down to 13-12. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Willow Glen, their record is now 21-2-1.
Willow Glen came up short against Pioneer in their previous matchup back in February, falling 7-2. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
