Culver City has gone 8-2 against Lawndale recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Centaurs will look to defend their home field against the Cardinals at 3:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Culver City 2, Lawndale 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Thursday, Culver City didn't have quite enough to beat Santa Monica and fell 2-1. The Centaurs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Lawndale made easy work of Inglewood on Thursday and carried off a 13-2 victory. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by eight runs or more this season.
Christian Lopez and Guru Rivas made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lopez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Rivas pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave Lopez a new career-high. At the plate, Lopez got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Rivas went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Lopez has become a key player for Lawndale: the team is 10-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Eddie Dominguez was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Seth Alex Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Lawndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Lawndale's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-9. As for Culver City, their loss dropped their record down to 17-8.
Culver City came out on top in a nail-biter against Lawndale when the teams last played back in March of 2019, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Centaurs repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
