The Lafayette Rams were the 71-62 winner over the New Kent Trojans when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Lafayette took a 75-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Kent. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (60), Lafayette still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Lafayette lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Jarquez Garrett. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with nine assists and seven steals. Garrett hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Asa Fehrenbach, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lafayette smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Kyle Diggs continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for New Kent, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Ross, who scored 14 points.
Lafayette's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for New Kent, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette will take on Warhill at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Warhill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 227th, while Lafayette is ranked 57th). As for New Kent, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on York at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th.
