The Greeley West Spartans will head out to challenge the Fort Collins Lambkins at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greeley West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Greeley West nor University made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Spartans lost 8-1 to the Bulldogs. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.
Hayden Atchley was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Fort Collins waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the SaberCats 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Lambkins, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Fort Collins also got a great performance from Lily Padilla as she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Padilla has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cori Davis was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ava Apodaca, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Fort Collins hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fossil Ridge struck out seven times.
Fort Collins' record now sits at 15-3. As for Greeley West, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Greeley West has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Fort Collins struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Greeley West might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Fort Collins when the teams last played on September 4th. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
