The St. Joseph Spartans waltzed into their contest Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 51-8 victory over Apollo Ridge. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win St. Joseph has managed all season.
Julie Spinelli was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The game was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gia Richter, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
St. Joseph's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Apollo Ridge, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Joseph will take on Aquinas Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Aquinas Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 41 on Saturday. Apollo Ridge will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Riverview at 6:00 p.m. on December 18th. Riverview's defense has only allowed 27.5 points per game this season, so Apollo Ridge's offense will have their work cut out for Apollo Ridge.
