The Canyon Cowboys will square off against the Trinity Classical Academy Knights at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Canyon will be strutting in after a win while Trinity Classical Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
Canyon headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Viewpoint let them put that streak behind them. Canyon was the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Viewpoint on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cowboys have posted since February 15, 2024.
Will Peck made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Peck was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Canyon got a massive performance out of Brody Bayliss, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Bayliss has posted since back in February of 2024. Ryder Brown was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .587. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Trinity Classical Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Castaic on Tuesday and fell 6-4. The loss was the Knights' first of the season.
Trinity Classical Academy also got a good showing from Maddox Rice, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Trinity Classical Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Carlson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Canyon's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Trinity Classical Academy, their loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Canyon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Trinity Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Canyon came up short against Trinity Classical Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 8-3. Can Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
