The Oceanside Pirates lost against the Torrey Pines Falcons back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Oceanside took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Torrey Pines. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oceanside in their matchups with Torrey Pines: they've now lost four in a row.
Oceanside's loss came despite strong showings from Aubrey Madden and Kaitlyn Kaye. Madden scored five points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks, while Kaye scored nine points. Madden is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Aliyah Samad was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Torrey Pines only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Zoe Lau, who scored 14 points along with four steals for Torrey Pines. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Trusso, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Oceanside has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season. As for Torrey Pines, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oceanside will take on San Dieguito Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. San Dieguito Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28. As for Torrey Pines, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Carlsbad at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th.
