Baseball Recap: Chester Comes Up Short

Chester extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-6 in the process. They lost 21-2 to the Redding Christian Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Volcanoes of the 21-11 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Chester saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caiden Clark, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Redding Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-5. That 19 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Redding Christian's side, Brodie Ogden made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Ogden is becoming a predictor of Redding Christian's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Ogden was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Conner Moore, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Boring, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chester will square off against Burney at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Volcanoes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Redding Christian, they will host Los Molinos at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
