The Diego Rivera Huskies will head out to take on the Hollywood Sheiks at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Diego Rivera barely beat Animo Venice the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huskies put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 14-2 victory on Friday. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Hollywood won against Roybal on Friday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Sheiks beat Robert F. Kennedy Community by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-4. The Sheiks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by eight runs or more this season.
Denis Kim was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Aaron Salguero was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Kendel Castro-Garcia was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Hollywood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robert F. Kennedy Community only managed nine.
The win was the third in a row for Diego Rivera, bringing their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Hollywood, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Diego Rivera suffered a grim 17-8 defeat to Hollywood in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
