Baseball Recap: Oakmont Extends Home Winning Streak to Ten

Oakmont barely beat Lincoln the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings put the hurt on the Fighting Zebras with a sharp 8-2 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Trevor Wilson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, CJ Smith looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Kunis, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Beau Ogles, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Oakmont's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-7.

Oakmont and Lincoln should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Vikings will square off against Center at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (42 vs. 589). Meanwhile, Lincoln (ranked 158th) will meet Valley Christian (ranked 556th) at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
