Basketball Recap: Grant Falls Despite Big Games from Asia Washington and Keyara Lopa

Grant has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-61 heartbreaker at the hands of the Kennedy Cougars. The Pacers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Grant had strong showings from Keyara Lopa, who posted 23 points and eight rebounds, and Asia Washington, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Washington's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Jalaysia Clements was another key player, putting up eight points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Grant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Grant's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Kennedy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-2.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing West Park the next time they take the court. Grant will host West Park at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Kennedy will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th.
