Basketball Recap: Pima Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Gilbert Classical Academy last Tuesday, Pima came back down to earth. The match between the Pima Roughriders and the Miami Vandals didn't end well, with the Pima Roughriders falling 61-43. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Roughriders, who until this game were averaging 27.27 points allowed.

Pima's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Adysen Hoopes, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 21 boards, and Sadie Richardson, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hoopes a new career-high in boards.

Even though they lost, Pima smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Miami was led to victory by Demetria Dosela and Tamia Pietila. Dosela went 7 for 13 on her way to 17 points along with six rebounds and five blocks, while Pietila went 5 of 12 en route to 21 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pietila has scored at least a third of Miami's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Pietila, who posted nine points and three steals.

Pima's defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 17-5. As for Miami, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-1.

Pima didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 37-36 loss against Arizona Lutheran Academy on the 25th. As for Miami, they will head out to face off against St. Augustine Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Miami is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69 points per game this season.
