The Fike Demons had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.4 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Smithfield-Selma 58-14 on the road. Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Smithfield-Selma is ranked 591st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fike to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jewel Brewington, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds. Emory Skinner was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Fike's victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Smithfield-Selma, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-18.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fike will take on East Wake at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fike is facing East Wake at the right time seeing as East Wake is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will play host again and welcome Southern Wayne, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Smithfield-Selma comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last 18 games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
